General Information

Troop 1131 attends a week-long summer camp every July.  The cost for the camp is about $??. (The Detroit Area Council has guarenteed the cost will go up for 2007).   The camp runs Sunday afternoon (we leave Saturday) through Saturday Morning.  The camp offers numerous opportunities for the boys to work on advancement, merit badges, and generally enjoy fun activities.  Activities include archery, rifle shooting, swimming, sailing, nature studies, etc.  The boys sleep in Troop tents.   During the week the boys eat meals in a dining hall, taking turns to help serve food and clean up.  On the last night of camp our troop traditionally enjoys a campwide campfire.

There are nightly camp-fire activities where the camp counselors (older scouts) lead the boys in skits and songs.  There are opportunities for older scouts to work at the camp and earn service hours for advancement badges.  The camp has a trading post where T-shirts, scouting items (flashlights, etc.), candy, ice cream and drinks are available.  Parents are welcome to stay all or part of the week.  Both boys and adults staying overnight (except for the last Friday) will need to provide up-to-date medical forms.

A Word To The Wise

First year scouts should not try more than three merit badges in one week, unless most of the work has been done before camp.

Complete advance work before camp.  Camp is not the ideal classroom, so written work is more easily done at home.

Each boy should try something new and get a well-rounded experience.  Try a handicraft badge or an Outdoor Skills badge.

The campsite is home for the week.  Bring banners and flags to dress it up.

Parents:  If your child needs ANY kind of medication, a medication permission form MUST be filled out and given to the scoutmaster.  If you do not have this form, the camp BY LAW cannot allow your child to have medication.  Please comply with this law and avoid any potential problems.

Each scout should prepare before going to scout camp for the merit badges that he has signed up for.  The entire merit badge book should be read prior to coming to camp.  They will need to bring a merit badge book for each merit badge they are going after.  Some merit badges have pre-requisites.  The pre-requisites should be done before coming to camp and any reports or written work for a badge should be completed before coming to camp.
